Burrell Scientific -- About Us

We are pleased to introduce you to Burrell Scientific, a manufacturer of quality scientific instruments and supplies since 1917.

As a Manufacturer

Many of you are familiar with our Wrist-Action® Shaker, a "must-have product" found in every laboratory. Others will recognize our Orsat Gas Analyzers that have been serving the scientific market for decades. Beyond these products we have also developed the Burrell Kup-L-Weld®, a thermocouple welder uniquely qualified for use in the production and repair of thermocouples. The Burrell-Severs Extrusion Rheometer is one of the best, low-cost rheometers on the market today. Initially developed and used in the plastisol industry for ASTM D-1823, it has a much broader range of application, including cosmetics, food processing, paints and many other disciplines.

Wrist-Action® Shaker

The Wrist-Action® Shaker, first introduced to the market place in 1940, has been continually updated to meet the challenges of today’s laboratories. The Shaker’s rugged durability and versatility is the cornerstone of its longevity of more than 60 years. It is the only true Wrist-Action® Shaker on the market. The Burrell Shaker duplicates the swirling action of hand-mixing, but with even motions at all speeds for as long as necessary—up to 60 minutes or continuous.

The exclusive Burrell Build-up SystemTM allows every shaker to adapt to any laboratory’s requirements—present and future. With our Build-upTM design the addition of a top platform, longer or shorter side arms, and a variety of clamps and supports, the Burrell Wrist-Action® Shaker can expand from the basic 4-Erlenmeyer flask unit to a capacity of up to 24 flasks—and separatory funnels from 250ml to 1000ml. Custom made clamps are designed and produced to fit individual customer needs.

Burrell Gas Analysis

Apparatus for the analysis of mine and furnace gases were the first products produced by Burrell. Today, the most common analyzers are those designed for the analysis of flue gases, stack gases, and cylinder gas purity. These analyzers determine quantitatively oxygen, carbon dioxide, or carbon monoxide by the Orsat volumetric (absorption) method which involves selective absorption in liquid reagents of the various gas components. Method 3—Gas Analysis for the Determination of Dry Molecular Weight—is the method the United States Environmental Protection Agency recommends and which most states require. Burrell Gas Analysis Apparatus for these gases are available in 3-Portable Cabinet Models, the Industro® Model-B and 2-Lab type cabinet models.

Cabinet Models Portable

Cabinet Models Portable 39-503, 39-507 and 39-540 are designed for on-site use, but are often set up in laboratories to analyze collected samples and to calibrate other types of combustion analyzers.

Industro® B Model

Industro® B Model 40-703 is designed for on-site use by control engineers, plant operators or laboratory technicians. It performs rapid control analysis of gas mixtures and its most common uses are the analysis of stack gases for the efficient regulation of combustion in coal, oil and gas fired furnaces.

Cabinet Models Lab Type

Cabinet Models Lab Type 39-216 and 39-286 are designed for laboratory analysis of oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and with catalyst heaters and/or copper oxide heaters they can analyze for hydrogen, methane, ethane and other hydrocarbons.

Kup-L-Weld® Thermocouple Welder

The KUP-L-WELD® II produces superior weld contacts allowing for precision temperature measurement. It is a complete, easy-to-use, self-contained unit for instantaneous thermocouple welding. The KUP-L-WELD® II welder features an illuminated work area, graduated power control, push-button power-activator, internal cooling, flash protection viewing screen and a pen style alligator-clamp holder. It is designed to ensure a consistent, high level of thermocouple quality.

Burrell-Severs Extrusion Rheometer

For studying the flow properties of substances that will flow at room temperature with or without the application of pressure. It can be used in production control as well as for the determination of fundamental data. 0 - 100 PSI, Viscosity range 1 to 1 million centipoises.

All of these products have passed the test of time and will continue to do so into the future; all are quality instruments; all are constructed to last a life-time.
